On a hard or laminated cover, yes. On a cloth-bound or uncoated album the adhesive will not hold and it will lift at the corners.

How do I apply it so it actually stays on?
Clean the surface with an alcohol wipe and let it dry fully. Peel the backing, position the piece, then press firmly for about thirty seconds. Leave it a full day before exposing it to water.

Will it leave a mark if I take it off?
No, it comes off without leaving a mark on the surface. If the adhesive is still intact you can stick it somewhere else, and if it has worn off, a small piece of 3M double sided tape will hold it on the new surface.
